Information about Supporting Documents for SDSU Graduate Admissions

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

SDSU requires that all graduate program applicants take the GRE prior to admission. See the ETS site for complete information and practice test questions. Exam scores are to be sent directly to SDSU from ETS.  Scores from the GRE taken within the past 5 years can also be requested from ETS.

We encourage you to take the GRE prior to Nov 1 in order to ensure your score is reported to SDSU by the deadline. If the GRE was taken more than 5 years prior to the application, an official copy of the GRE scores will be accepted. If you already have a Master’s or higher degree from an institution that is a member of the Council of Graduate Schools, you are not required to take the GRE.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

The TOEFL exam is required prior to admission if the Postsecondary instruction was in a language other than English.  Exam scores are to be sent directly to SDSU from ETS.
The institution number for SDSU is 4682.  See the Graduate Bulletin and SDSU Graduate Admissions for minimum acceptable scores and further information.

Transcripts

Submit one set of official transcripts from each issuing institution for all coursework completed following high school. See SDSU Graduate Admissions for further information.
