Service Requests

If you are experiencing any issues in your living space, you may submit a service request for maintenance or repair at no cost. Submit your service request and check its status on the Housing Portal. Maintenance and repairs will be made on a priority basis. It may take several days for a service request to be completed if parts must be ordered. A copy of your service request details will be shared with your roommate (if applicable) and apartment-mates so they are aware of the service request submission.

Submit a Service Request

To provide a quick response to your service request, maintenance may access your space when you are not present. Clear a space for maintenance to work to ensure there is no contact with your personal belongings. Parking and Transportation

Street parking is the recommended parking option for residents living at Calexico Commons.

The parking lot on the SDSU Imperial Valley campus is not available for overnight parking and closes daily at 10:00 p.m. To avoid having your vehicle locked inside the lot after it closes, we strongly encourage residents to use street parking rather than the campus parking lot. Vehicles parked in the campus parking lot without authorization may be cited or towed at the owner's expense.

parking map

Please note that street parking availability may vary throughout the day. We encourage residents to plan accordingly, particularly during evenings and weekends when neighborhood parking may be more limited.

Parking Tips:
Parking in a residential neighborhood requires courtesy and attention to local regulations. Please keep the following reminders in mind:

  • Always lock your vehicle.
  • Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle.
  • Never block residential driveways, sidewalks or access points.
  • Carefully observe and follow all posted parking signs, curb markings and parking restrictions.
  • Be mindful of street sweeping schedules, time limits and any temporary parking restrictions that may be in effect in the surrounding areas.

Transportation Options:
Students living in Calexico Commons can travel throughout Calexico and the Imperial Valley using the transportation services provided by the Imperial County Transportation Commission (ICTC). Available services include:

  • Imperial Valley Transit (IVT) Bus Service: Fixed-route bus service connecting communities throughout Imperial County, including Calexico, El Centro, Imperial and Brawley. IVT routes provide transportation options for commuting to campus and traveling within the region.
  • Calexico On Demand: An app-based, shared ride service operating within Calexico. Riders can schedule trips through the Calexico On Demand mobile app or by phone.
  • Additional ICTC Transportation Services: ICTC also offers specialized transportation services, including IVT Access paratransit service and IVT MedTrans medical transportation services.

Lithium-Ion Battery Safety
Lithium-ion batteries are commonly used in everyday items such as smartphones, laptops and portable battery packs. While these batteries are efficient and compact, they can pose serious safety risks when damaged, misused or improperly charged.

  • Stay Alert for Warning Signs: Discontinue use or charging of any lithium-ion battery if you notice unusual smells, overheating, physical changes like swelling or leaking, performance problems or physical damage.
  • Follow Battery Safety Tips: Only purchase products that are certified by recognized safety standards (such as UL certification). Always use the original charger provided by the manufacturer or one that is compatible in voltage and amperage. Avoid overcharging by unplugging your device once it is fully charged, and never leave devices unattended while charging.
  • Be Aware of Environmental Factors: Lithium-ion batteries should not be charged in extreme temperatures. Avoid charging below 32°F or above 105°F.
  • Follow Proper Battery Disposal Guidelines: Never discard lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins, as they contain hazardous materials and must be recycled properly. Residents may drop off used batteries at their community front desks for proper disposal.

Additional information can be found in the Policies and Regulations section of the Guide to Community Living.

Renters Insurance

Students are responsible for any damage to the residential communities. We encourage parents and families to contact your insurance provider to learn more about renters insurance options or to see if your current homeowner’s policy will provide any coverage for your student.

If you are interested in purchasing renters insurance, SDSU is partnered with GradGuard. GradGuard offers renters insurance coverage as well as protection for personal property, including electronics.

To opt in, visit gradguard.com. Once on the site, search for San Diego State University - Imperial Valley Campus in the “search school” area in the top right corner.
