San Diego State University Imperial Valley’s School of Nursing received another $3 million in awards in October. Two new federal and state grants will support an augmented reality nursing lab and a comprehensive high school-to-health professional workforce pipeline in Imperial County.

Nine faculty have been hired in the College of Sciences, College of Health and Human Services and SDSU Imperial Valley as a part of SDSU FUERTE (Faculty Unified towards Excellence in Research and Transformational Engagement), an National Institutes of Health-funded effort to bolster Latinx health disparities research and provide researchers with thoughtful career development and mentoring.

San Diego State University, SDSU Imperial Valley and El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) have received a $5 million cooperative agreement award from an arm of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to tackle health inequities in the region. Over five years, the funds will help to establish the Imperial County Clinical Research Network (ICCRN), a partnership between the SDSU HealthLINK Center, SDSU IV (RISE) Center, and ECRMC.

John Polich Was Among the Founding Faculty at the Calexico Campus Recruited by Former Dean Rodney. A celebration of life is planned for Dr. John Leo Polich, a retired San Diego State University-Imperial Valley history and geography professor who died on Sept. 13 at the age of 86. In Polich’s honor, a memorial is scheduled at the SDSU-IV library’s north wing from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 26, with a reception scheduled immediately after in the campus’ John Steppling Art Gallery from 7 to 8 p.m.

San Diego State University Imperial Valley is now accepting applications for fall 2023 with more majors than ever, including a new bachelor's degree in mathematics. In addition, there are many new student services and amenities to enrich the college experience.
