SDSU Imperial Valley researcher Linda Lara-Jacobo, who studies environmental risks along the U.S.-Mexico border with the aim of reducing severe health inequities, has received the 2026 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Early Career Award for Public Engagement with Science.

San Diego State University Imperial Valley’s School of Nursing received another $3 million in awards in October. Two new federal and state grants will support an augmented reality nursing lab and a comprehensive high school-to-health professional workforce pipeline in Imperial County.

Nine faculty have been hired in the College of Sciences, College of Health and Human Services and SDSU Imperial Valley as a part of SDSU FUERTE (Faculty Unified towards Excellence in Research and Transformational Engagement), an National Institutes of Health-funded effort to bolster Latinx health disparities research and provide researchers with thoughtful career development and mentoring.
